Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 14, Verse 20

The embodied one having gone beyond these three Gunas out of which the body is evolved, is freed from birth, death, decay and pain, and attains to immortality.

Getting past all three forces at once, not just picking the best one, is named here as what actually earns real freedom.

Krishna doesn't offer escape through choosing goodness over the other two, he names transcending all three together as the real requirement. Immortality is tied to that complete release, not a partial one.
