Privacy Policy

Kanha is built to hold as little of your data as possible. Here is exactly what that means in practice.

What Kanha stores

To keep your progress safe, Kanha asks you to sign in with Google or with an email and password. Against your account it stores your email address (and, if you use Google, the basic profile Google shares), your name and age as you entered them, the answers you gave when you started (your reading goals, how familiar you are with the Gita, and how much you plan to read each day), your reading progress, the verses you have favorited, and your answers to the reflection questions. This is held in Google's Firebase (Cloud Firestore) on servers in the United States, which is how your progress follows you to a new phone or a reinstall. Kanha turns off Android's own device backup, so none of this leaves your phone that way. When you finish the book it also stores the date you finished and the dates on which you read, and Kanha adds one to an anonymous total of how many readers have finished; that total holds no names or accounts and is not reduced if you later delete your account. If you turn on the daily reminder, the time you choose, your first name and the day you last read are kept on your phone only, and the reminder is made on your phone: Kanha sends no notifications from a server.

Usage information

Kanha uses Google Analytics for Firebase to understand how the app is used and to find problems. It collects basic information such as your device model and Android version, an identifier for your device or app installation (which can include Android's advertising ID), the events the app records, and your approximate location, such as your country or city, worked out from your IP address. It is tied to an anonymous identifier for your installation, not to your account, and Google keeps it for a limited time under its own privacy terms. Kanha also uses Firebase App Check with Google Play Integrity, which checks that requests to Kanha's servers come from the genuine app installed through Google Play; for that, Google receives a short-lived token and information about the app and your device, under its own privacy terms.

What Kanha never does

Kanha shows no advertising, does not sell your data, and does not share it with anyone for advertising or marketing. Your information is used only to sign you in, save your progress and improve the app. The feature-request board opens in your browser at UserJot, and what you write there goes to UserJot, not through the app.

Deleting your data, and questions

You can delete your account, and everything stored against it, at any time from inside the app: open your profile, open Account, and choose Delete account. If you can no longer open the app, ask by email and it will be deleted for you (see the Delete account page). Any other question is welcome at the same address: kanhaa9977@gmail.com.

This website

This website, kanhagita.com, counts page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics. It sets no cookies, does not follow you across other sites and does not record your name or email. Email addresses people left on an earlier wishlist form were held by Kit, the email service Kanha used to announce the app. Kanha no longer uses Kit and does not email that list; to have your address deleted, write to kanhaa9977@gmail.com. The online reader keeps your saved verses, the verses you have read, the place you stopped and your light or night choice in your browser, on your own device. It also keeps copies of Kanha's public pages there so the reader works offline. None of this is sent to Kanha or to anyone else, and the reader sets no cookies.
