Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 16, Verse 11-12

Beset with immense cares ending only with death, regarding gratification of lust as the highest, and feeling sure that that is all; bound by a hundred ties of hope, given over to lust and wrath, they strive to secure by unjust means hoards of wealth for sensual enjoyment.

A real, exhausting cycle is described here, anxiety that doesn't let up until death itself, bondage measured out in real numbers, hundreds of desires, not one or two manageable cravings.

Even while believing gratification is life's highest purpose, this existence is shown as genuinely tormented, not actually satisfied, driven by lust and anger toward unjust wealth accumulation. Real suffering hides underneath a real claim of contentment, and scale itself becomes part of the description.
