Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 17, Verse 20

To give is right, gift given with this idea, to one who does no service in return, in a fit place and to a worthy person, that gift is held to be Sâttvika.

Real generosity here is defined by more than the act itself, timing and place matter too.

Giving to someone worthy, at the right time, simply because it's right, is named as the real, complete picture of goodness in charity. Every detail is shown to matter.
