Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 12, Verse 13-14

He who hates no creature, and is friendly and compassionate towards all, who is free from the feelings of I and mine, even-minded in pain and pleasure, forbearing, ever content, steady in meditation, self-controlled, and possessed of firm conviction, with mind and intellect fixed on Me, he who is thus devoted to Me, is dear to Me.

A long, real list of qualities begins here, starting with something as basic as holding no ill will toward anyone, then moves into steadier, more internal qualities.

Freedom from malice and real compassion are named first, before anything more advanced. From there the list turns to how someone holds themselves, steady, resolved, genuinely dedicated, describing one complete, real character.
