Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 12, Verse 18-19

He who is the same to friend and foe, and also in honour and dishonour; who is the same in heat and cold, and in pleasure and pain; who is free from attachment; to whom censure and praise are equal; who is silent, content with anything, homeless, steady-minded, full of devotion, that man is dear to Me.

Even the difference between a friend and an enemy stops mattering here, real evenness reaching that far, right down to not being tied to any one place.

Treating honor and dishonor, heat and cold, joy and sorrow all the same way describes a mind no longer pulled around by outside conditions. Silence, contentment, and no fixed attachment to where someone lives round out a picture of real inner independence that doesn't depend on circumstances staying favorable.
