Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 4, Verse 11

In whatever way men worship Me, in the same way do I fulfil their desires: it is My path, O son of Prithâ, that men tread, in all ways.

However people approach Krishna, he meets them in that same way.

This reads more like a relationship than a fixed rulebook. What comes back reflects what was offered, and the verse adds that every path people walk is, in the end, his path.
