Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 5, Verse 6
Renunciation of action, O mighty-armed, is hard to attain to without performance of action; the man of meditation, purified by devotion to action, quickly goes to Brahman.
Real renunciation, ironically, is hard to reach without first doing real, engaged work.
This isn't a contradiction, it's practical sequencing. Trying to skip straight to detachment without ever actually testing it through real responsibility tends to stay theoretical, staying engaged is what actually gets someone there faster.
